RILEM Association
The Origin
The International Union of Laboratories and Experts in Construction Materials, Systems and Structures (RILEM, from the name in French) was founded in June 1947, with the aim to promote scientific cooperation in the area of construction materials and structures.
Today, the new meaning of the acronym RILEM (Réunion Internationale des Laboratoires et Experts des Matériaux, systèmes de construction et ouvrages) emphasises its dominant focus on people as well as its worldwide activities, covering 90 countries.

“The mission of the association is to advance free-access scientific knowledge related to construction materials, systems and structures and to encourage transfer and application of this knowledge world-wide.”
The Goals
This mission is achieved through collaboration of leading experts in construction practice and science including academics, researchers, testing laboratories and authorities. The three main goals of RILEM are:
To promote sustainable and safe construction, and improved performance and cost benefit for society.
To stimulate new directions of research and its applications, promoting excellence in construction.
To favour and promote interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary cooperation at international scale.

Submission Options: After abstract acceptance, you may choose to submit a 1-page Abstract, 2-4 pages Extended Abstract, or 6-8 pages Full Paper.

Submission Guidelines
Scientific Contributions
Regular speakers can contribute to the conference in several ways:
- Full paper (6 to 8 pages) and oral presentation (12 min. presentation + 3 min. Q&A).
- Extended abstract (2 to 4 pages) and oral presentation (12 min. presentation + 3 min. Q&A).
- Regular abstract (1 page) and flash presentation during oral session (2 min. presentation) and poster presentation.
Keynote speakers can contribute with extended abstract or full paper. They are allocated a 20 min. presentation + 5 min. Q&A.
Proceedings
All full papers will be included in the conference proceedings.
The conference proceedings will be published by Springer (Scopus-indexed and EiCompendex-indexed).
Please note that full papers are submitted to RILEM copyright.
Guidelines to Authors
- Regular abstracts should be 300 words maximum. They should be submitted by filling in the text box directly in the ConfTool system. The deadline for regular abstract submission is given here.
- Extended abstracts should be between 2 and 4-page long. They should be prepared using the template available here.
- Extended abstracts can be submitted either directly by the deadline of regular abstracts; or by the deadline of full papers. In the latter case, a regular abstract should be submitted first.
- Full papers should be 6 pages minimum to 8 pages maximum. They should be prepared using the template available here.

- Upon acceptance, the RILEM copyright form should be also provided by authors.
Authors who have received notification that their abstract has been accepted must submit their full article or extended abstract, in their personal space (by logging to the website) by completing their initial submission, which can be found in My Space > My Submissions.
⚠️ Authors are asked not to create a new submission.
Full papers and extended abstracts must be submitted in Word format as “supplementary data”.

The layout of posters is free, no poster template is imposed by the conference organisers.
Please prepare an A0 poster and bring the hard copy with you or we will support for printing (display must be completed before 27 August 2027).

The 81st RILEM Week & GCEE 2027 is pleased to announce opportunities and recognitions for early-career researchers and PhD students.
🏅 Young Researcher Competition – Best Poster Award
The Young Researcher Competition is open to early-career researchers, including Master’s students and PhD students participating in the 81st RILEM Annual Week & International Conference 2027.
Participation in the competition requires registration during the abstract submission and editorial process. The candidate must be the first and corresponding author of the abstract and must also present the poster during the poster session.
Evaluation Criteria
The competition will be evaluated by an independent international jury composed of renowned scientists and experts in the field. The assessment will be based on:
- The scientific quality of the submitted abstract
- The quality and clarity of the poster presentation during the poster session
Awards
Three awards will be granted:
✈️ PhD Travel Grants for the 81st RILEM Annual Week
RILEM recognizes that young researchers from low- and middle-income countries often face financial barriers to participating in international conferences. To encourage broader participation in RILEM activities, the PhD Travel Grant Program provides financial support for eligible young researchers to attend the 81st RILEM Annual Week & International Conference 2027.
Eligibility
Applications are open to:
- PhD students, or
- Researchers who obtained their PhD degree in 2027
Applicants must also:
- Be under 35 years old at the time of the 81st RILEM Annual Week
- Reside in a country eligible for special discounted RILEM membership fees (please refer to the official RILEM website for the updated country list)
- Not have received this grant in previous editions
Selection Criteria
- Scientific and technical quality of the submitted abstract
- Quality of the personal statement and motivational video, particularly regarding the expected impact of the grant on the applicant’s career development and future involvement in RILEM activities
- Priorities established by the RILEM Educational Activities Committee (EAC) for supporting young researchers
Application Process & Requirements
Applicants are required to first submit an abstract and subsequently a full paper through the standard conference submission process before the official deadlines. Within one month after receiving the abstract acceptance notification, applicants must submit the following documents to the conference secretariat or designated RILEM contact email:
- A one-page personal statement (PDF or DOCX format)
- The accepted abstract
- A one-minute motivational video
- Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- A recommendation letter from the PhD supervisor (for PhD students), or a certificate indicating the date of PhD graduation (for recent graduates)
- A proposed budget covering estimated expenses for conference attendance, including travel, visa, accommodation, and subsistence costs
🎁 Grant Awards
Awardees will be invited to present their work during the 81st RILEM Annual Week & International Conference 2027 and will receive:
- Financial Support: A travel grant of up to €2,000 (subject to budget evaluation and approval by RILEM)
- Registration: Waived conference registration fees
- Membership: A 3-year RILEM membership
- Networking: An opportunity to attend a formal meeting with the RILEM Presidency during the conference
